How to get more ratings and reviews for your podcast

Reviews play an important role when it comes to attracting new listeners to your podcast. A greater number of positive reviews increases the credibility of your show and acts as social proof.

Most shows expend very little effort when it comes to getting more reviews. Some hosts ask their listeners to"leave us a review on iTunes" but this isn't a useful call to action for most listeners. The process of leaving a review is too complicated.

Rate This Podcast lets you claim a short, memorable link for your podcast that gets you more reviews and subscribers. You can read it out to your listeners on-air and share it on social media.

Your listeners visit the link and they're presented with a list of apps suitable for their device. For example, users on Apple devices are shown Apple Podcasts at the top of the list. Click here to see a demo.

We wrote this guide to making the most of your link and how to get more reviews generally.

#1: Read out your link every episode

The best time to ask for reviews is precisely when your listeners are enjoying the show. We recommend reading out this blurb at the beginning or end of every episode:

“If you love this show, please leave us a review. Go to RateThisPodcast.com/serial and follow the simple instructions.”

#2: Share your link on social media

Post your link to Facebook, X, Instagram and anywhere else where you connect with your fans. If you have one, send it out to your mailing list.

Recently we saw one of our shows gaining 50 new reviews after sharing a link on their Facebook page.

#3: Put the link in your show notes

Every time you publish a new episode of your show, include your new link in the show notes. These notes appear in most podcast apps and they also get shared by aggregators all over the web.

#4: Add the link to your podcast's website

We're seeing a lot of hits coming from shows that place a great big Rate This Podcast button or link on their website. It works!

#5: Put the link in your social media profiles

If someone is browsing your show's social media accounts it probably means that they're a happy and loyal listener. Add your memorable link to your podcast's Facebook, X or Instagram bio to get more reviews.

#6: Personally say thanks for every review

The other day I spotted that one of our shows commits to reading out every review on-air. Even the negative ones!

There's probably nothing that could create more loyalty and delight than hearing your name read out while listening to your favorite show. Also, if someone hasn't left a review yet, this might persuade them to do so.
